A Review of Fabrication Methods, Properties and Applications of Superhydrophobic Metals

Hydrophobicity and superhydrophobicity with self-cleaning properties are well-known characteristics of several natural surfaces, such as the leaves sacred lotus plant (Nelumbo nucifera). To achieve a superhydrophobic state, micro- nanometer scale topography should be realized on low surface energy material, or coating deposited top micro-nano if material is inherently hydrophilic. Tailoring chemistry to control wetting between extreme states enables palette functionalities, self-cleaning, antifogging, anti-biofouling etc. A variety topographies have been in polymers, ceramics, metals. Metallic surfaces particularly important engineering applications (e.g., naval, aircrafts, buildings, automobile) their transformation can provide additional corrosion protection, drag reduction, anti-icing properties. This review paper focuses recent advances metals alloys which applicable real life aims an overview most promising methods sustainable superhydrophobicity.
